Crochet Blanket, finally finished!

blanketOy, have I been remiss in posting.  Many of you probably remember that I was doing a Crochet Challenge in 2015.  The idea was to do two granny squares a week, and then piece together as I go, and the finished product would be a queen size afghan to go on our spare bedroom bed.  Well, much like most things in life, it didn’t exactly go to plan.  I took a few months off during the summer last year, and then slacked every now and then.  But, last month, I finished it up and added the border!   It’s very colorful and it turned out a little smaller than I anticipated, but I’m still really happy with how it looks.  It’ll be perfect for a twin size bed, when we have a little one!  So, here it is!  Ready to go on the bed! (the cats seem to love it too)

Much love,
K.

More Ink…maybe I’m addicted?

I’ve always heard people say that getting tattoos is a bit addictive, but I never really believed them.  Until now, of course.  A few weeks back, I had my first tattoo (the compass rose on my shoulder) touched up, as well as finished with the coordinates for where J and I lived in the Netherlands and Japan.  Overall, the look is exactly what I was going for, and I love that she set it up in a way that I could always add more if we moved again.

So…one down.  However, much like everyone predicted, I was ready for #2 almost immediately!  I knew that I wanted something on my upper thigh, and had a pretty good idea of what I wanted, but wanted to talk with my tattoo artist to see what she could put together.  I talked with her a couple of weeks ago to flesh out the idea (pun intended), and we decided on a gorgeous mandala design.  It would be similar to the style of my compass rose, so the overall theme of the two would work well together.  Also, I love all the color work that she does, so it made sense to just let her run free with the colors.

mandala tattooLast night, I got my second tattoo!  She was able to do it all in one sitting, only took a couple of hours.  I absolutely LOVE what she’s done and can’t wait for it to fully  heal so that I can show it off!  The color work is gorgeous, and exactly what I knew would put together for me.  So, here it is…Tattoo #2!  What do you think?

Much love,
K.

Making Some Headway!

Oh my, has 2015 been crazy so far (crazy in life AND in crochet projects)!    After several weeks months of not working on my Crochet Challenge 2015 project, I can safely say that I am getting back on track!  Unfortunately (or fortunately), a few of my friends were getting ready to give birth, so the granny-smith blanket took a backseat to some ADORABLE baby blankets.  And, honestly, I couldn’t have been happier to get to work on those!  But now, it’s time to get back on track with the Crochet Challenge, in the hopes of catching up to where I should be currently, and then keep going throughout the year!

IMG_0493I still have a ways to go…I’m waiting on some more yarn to arrive (what started out as a stash buster quickly because a reason to buy more yarn…go figure), so there are some gaps that I need to fill in.  If I had the yarn that I needed, I figured that I am about a week away from catching up, if I did two granny squares a night.  So, approximately 14-16 squares behind.  Not impossible by any stretch of the imagination (especially because I was much further behind about a week ago), it will just take some concentration and hard work.  I should be completely caught up in two weeks time, max!  I also need to order more yarn, once I take inventory of what I have and what I need.  I am so pleased with how it’s turning out!  For awhile there, I was feeling very “meh” about the project, because I am absolutely horrible at anything “random.”  I am a pattern girl, through and through, and I really struggled with how a blanket with randomly placed colors would look.  However, now that I am further along with it, I am definitely falling in love!  I can’t wait to see the finished product and to put it on the bed!

Here’s what I have so far…ignore the gaps, I’m just waiting on my Plum color to show up in the mail!

Much love,
K.

Week Eight (and Seven!): Crochet Challenge

FullSizeRenderOy, what a crazy past few weeks!  Between work travel, work commitments, work work, and just…work, I’ve been running around like a headless chicken.  I missed posting on last week’s crochet challenge (even though I actually did complete the squares), so now you get a combined post showing the progress!  I’m excited to have two full rows complete, as it really gives me an idea of how the blanket is taking shape.  It’s also now big enough for the cats to try to lay on while I’m working on it…I can tell they’re definitely pleased.

So, here it is…two full rows!  I’m so excited about this one…I can’t wait to snuggle up with it on the couch!

Much love,
K.

Week Six: Crochet Challenge

Week Six CrochetWeek six is done and dusted!  I really like how the blanket is taking shape, and I think it’s going to be a good addition to the couch once it’s finished!  Unfortunately, I’m a little iffy on how all the colors are coming out, but it’s being used for a cuddle blanket, so if it isn’t perfect, that’s ok.  And, at the end of it all, if I decide I don’t like it, I can always donate it somewhere too!

I’ve now got 14 squares done, and will probably work ahead again this coming week.  I have 4 more squares to do before the second row is done, and I think that will help me visualize where the blanket is going a bit better.  I’m pretty sure I’m done with adding new colors, now it’s just a matter of mixing them up!  Overall, I’m pretty happy with it!

Much love,
K.

Week Five: Crochet Challenge

FullSizeRenderThis post is coming slightly later than I had anticipated.  Unfortunately, I had worked ahead in week 4, and then life exploded (primarily work related) in week 5, so I finished up the week 5 challenge a few days late.  No worries, though, because week 6 will be on time!  Plus…I’m still ahead of the game, and I’m loving how this blanket is turning out!  As always, I’m open to suggestions!

Much love,
K.

Week Four: Crochet Challenge

blanket week 4Week four is complete for my 2015 Crochet Challenge!  I am so happy with how this blanket is coming along, though I’m pretty sure J is going to kill me because I ordered more yarn.  LOTS of yarn.  Oh well…it’s a life skill, right?

I actually worked ahead this week, primarily because I was tired of just having a long line of squares connected.  So now, I’m on my second row, and I can finally see how this will all take shape!  Also, since I’m doing more than 104 squares, I need to work ahead somewhat, so that I still finish up at the end of the year.  I’ve put together an excel spreadsheet so that I can try to plan out the work, but I’ll still leave the color choices up to whim if another color strikes my fancy.  It’s structured, but not too much so.  Just how I like it!

As always, if you have any thoughts on colors to add, I’d love to hear them!

Much love,
K.
