If you could spend 15 minutes with anyone, from any time period, who would it be and why?
I love these types of questions, even though my answers shift depending on my mood. If you would have asked me a few years ago, I would have said someone like Julius Caesar, as I’d love to speak with someone who held such influence and power for so long. Another answer, more often than not, would be Jesus. I think it would be fascinating to ask him what he thought about Christianity today, and if its anything like it was intended to be.
But, today is different. Today, I’d like to go back in time and talk to my great-great-great grandparents on my mother’s side. My great-great-great grandmother was from the Netherlands, and my great-great-great grandfather was from Germany. I’d like to talk to them about their experiences in Europe, and the moving to the United States. I’m curious as to why they left their homes and moved here. Also, my mother thinks that, culturally and religiously, they were Jewish, so I’m curious as to how my mother was raised Christian in the home and where that shift came from. We don’t celebrate any Jewish customs, so it must have been a conscious effort on their parts to not share that aspect of their upbringing with their children. It’s really fascinating to me, and I’d love to know more about my ancestors and who they were.
What about you? If you had 15 minutes to spend with anyone, who would it be?
